Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts - 2 Timothy 2:22
Stay away from every kind of evil - 1 Thessalonians 5:22
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure - 1 Corinthians 10:13
I’ve been thinking a lot about temptation and the truth is, it’s a pretty hard thing to avoid altogether and sometimes, if we’re really being honest with ourselves, we don’t really want to avoid it and there are other times where we neglect to listen to the spirit of God who is in us and warning us to be cautious, to flee from what we know is not of God. And take it from someone who’s been delivered from an addiction to pornography, if you constantly surround yourself with a stimulus, a thing that tempts you or something that puts you on the road to temptation, you will fall. And no, friends, that isn’t me being negative; it’s the truth. We have to be so cautious of what we allow in our ear-gates and our eye-gates, it’s so dangerous to allow yourself to see or hear evil things and this is why there are certain movies that I abstain from watching and certain kinds of music that I will never allow on my iPod. One of the best ways in which you can guard your heart is by protecting your ears and your eyes, and praying for God’s guidance, pray to be sensitive to His voice, read the Word, spend time listening to good sermons that will change your life and just remain in God, people. The devil is on a mission with young people today - he is so clever - but our weapons of warfare are not carnal, we have God on our side. And that’s another thing, God is on your side. He’s for you. I’ve read a quote that goes something like, “God is with us against our sin” - He isn’t some horrible God who’s just waiting to laugh at you when you fall. Rather, He is the voice that steadily whispers, “Get up, child, I’m here, you can do this”.
Order my steps in your word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me - Psalm 119:133 (AKJ)
Some of you might know that Jesus saved me from many things, one of them being an addiction to pornography and I get the question all the time about how to be free from sin and obviously the first step is salvation. You’re no where without the cross, you haven’t even begun to know freedom until you encounter the Messiah, there is literally no hope for mankind without the cross. But once you take that step, the best thing you can do is just to get into God’s word, feed on the word like a starving man everyday, overdo it, if you can. But just put yourself in that place where God can speak to you straight from His word everyday, it might not be a a whole chapter or a whole bunch of chapters, sometimes God will give you just one verse or a couple lines that will completely transform your life and the way you think. So this verse, “order my steps…and let not iniquity have dominion over me” - reading His word will make you to not only know His will but it will transform your heart and your mind and make you more obedient to His will, and what is His will? Salvation from sin. The word has filled us with so many lives but reading His word erases those lies, it makes us see ourselves the way He sees us and how does He see us? He sees us as free, free from our sin, free from the guilt, His word tells us that through Him, we can do anything and when we start to really believe that, our sin loses its power over us.
Bad things happening in a person’s life doesn’t mean God is angry with you. He is love; everything He does is out of love for humanity. If He was angry with you and wanted to give you your fair punishment, you can be certain that we’d all be burning in hell right now - He doesn’t give us our fair punishment and because of grace, Heaven looks at you through the blood of Jesus, the blood that covers all sin. Not some, not a few, not the minor ones - all.
“It’s too late for you to go back now, you’ve gone too far in your sin”.
Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call - Isaiah 59:1
So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help - Isaiah 30:18
It will never be too late. There is no amount of sin that you can commit that will make God decide to give up on loving you; His grace, His love, and His mercy is far greater than any sin that you could ever commit. Take the love of a good earthly father, and times that by a 100, His love is greater still. God wants us to return to Him; we wouldn’t be wanting Him if He didn’t want us, and we love Him because He first loved us. He loved us when we hated Him. He loved us when we wouldn’t give Him the time of day. He loved us when we chose alternative sources of fulfillment. There is no end to His love for you.
I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free - Isaiah 44:22
“You’ll have to work hard to make yourself right with God.”
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it - Ephesians 2:9
This is my biggest problem with religion as the world knows it; you have to work hard in order to make God love you, in order to be approved by Him. But Jesus Christ on the cross tells us that He loved us before we ever knew to love Him in the first place, He loved us whilst we were in the filth of our sin, He will continue to love us whether or not we do what is right, His love for us isn’t rooted in who we are or what we’ve done. He loves us even when we don’t love Him, Agape love doesn’t have to be reciprocated.
We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind - Isaiah 64:6
