I have hidden your word in my heart

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you - Psalm 119:11

God has been speaking this into my heart a lot lately and I’ve been trying to study Psalm 119 with depth and it’s been a while since I’ve looked at this passage. I just feel so challenged by this verse to treasure the Word, to spend time, really spend time, meditating over it and studying and committing it to memory and storing it up in my heart. I was having this conversation with a friend on Saturday about how the Bible has to be more than an inspirational quote book, it has to be more than a book that we carry to church or in our bags, it has to be in our hearts - it has to be something that we’re thinking about and reflecting on constantly. I think that this kind of persistence in treasuring the Word of God is what Paul is talking about in 2 Corinthians 3:3 - Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.
